Hardraw Old School Bunkhouse sleeps 26 persons in 4 different bunkrooms (9 beds, 8 beds, 6 beds & 3 beds).
The bunkrooms for 9, 6 and 3 all contain one double bed (with single bunk over).
The smaller bunkrooms are ideal for families or staff members of youth/school groups.
Additional mattresses and/or camping spaces can be offered to slightly larger groups—up to a maximum of 30 persons. The cost for these additional persons is £7pppn and should be arranged in advance of your visit.
Please note, the bunkrooms available for sole use bookings will depend on the size of your group.
Unfortunately, due to allergies of other guests and the extensive additional cleaning involved to maintain bunkhouse hygiene, dogs (with the exception of guide dogs) are NOT allowed in the bunkhouse.
There are male and female washrooms with 5 hot showers. The ladies’ bathroom was completely refurbished in January 2016 and now offers hotel standard facilities including 2 power showers.
The centre is centrally heated throughout. Our biomass boiler provides heating and hot water to the bunkhouse in an environmentally friendly way. The heating is programmed to come on in the mornings to ease you out of bed, mid-afternoon, to warm you after your day’s activities and in the evening. Please note: although we are happy to make reasonable adjustments to timings to suit guests' comings and goings, we are unable to offer 24hr heating as this destroys the fabric of the building. If you require 24hr heating then the School House will not suit your group during the winter months.
Kitchen facilities include 2 ovens, 2 hobs, a microwave and plenty of cooking and serving implements for up to 30 people.
Kitchen and hall facilities are also available for day use. Cost is tailored to your booking. Typical rates are £40 for a half day booking and £75 for a whole day. Regular events can be hosted mid-week at a rate of £10 per hour. Please call us to discuss.
A drying room allows guests subjected to the wetter Yorkshire Dales weather, a chance to dry their clothes and shoes prior to a second foray into the surrounding countryside.
The old school hall is an open plan living space that is used as a dining room, lounge and teaching room. This areas is available to all guests. In this communal area, there is a selection of books, games, puzzles, along with a piano and table tennis table. The hall area also has a log burner and bags of wood and kindling can be purchased from us at cost price.
Wi-Fi is available free of charge however, we do not have a TV licence. Whilst this may be seen as a blessing by some, leaders are responsible for ensuring that no TV is accessed using other devices by group members.
Kitchen and hall facilities are also available for day use. Cost is tailored to your booking. Please call to discuss.
To the rear of the property is an enclosed grass area with picnic tables. A great area for BBQs although we do ask you to keep your BBQs off the grass and rest them on the stone slabs that surround the grassed area.
Please read the pre-arrival information sheet for additional information.

We continue to rejuvenate the Old Schoolhouse to provide more flexible and improved accommodation for both individuals and groups.
This is an on-going project yet, changes are already noticeable. Roof and chimney leaks have been repaired, the attic space fully insulated and an efficient and environmentally friendly heating source installed in a renovated external building. A secure bike shed is now available to guests.
We have now completed two further bunkrooms sleeping 3 and 6 persons. These smaller rooms make ideal family accommodation, or separate sleeping areas for staff of school or youth groups.
The chimney serving the school hall has been repaired and re-opened. A log burner has been installed giving guests a comfy seating area in which to reminisce on the day’s events. Please remember to use only kiln dried logs or ones purchased from us (we don’t make a profit, just aiming to keep the log burner functioning effectively). Log burners have maximum efficiency if wood used has less than 20% water content. We have sourced a local supplier and a bag of logs (including kindling) can be bought for £4—please ask.
The Entrance Hall has been renovated to create a larger area in which to remove muddy boots and coats.
The Ladies’ bathrooms have enjoyed a complete refurbishment and now offer modern, warm, ventilated facilities. (The men’s bathrooms will also have the same treatment—but not immediately).
A new drying room allows guests subjected to the wetter Yorkshire Dales weather, a chance to dry their clothes and shoes prior to a second foray into the surrounding countryside.
